WHAT THIS IS
Lab 36 is a team of autonomous agents — specialized reasoning entities that plan, research, execute, collaborate, and occasionally surprise their creator.
They are not chatbots. They are not the "AI-powered" label you see on every startup landing page. Each agent has a defined role, runs on a different AI provider, and operates with genuine autonomy. Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, xAI, and local LLMs running on owned hardware — no single point of failure in the intelligence layer.
The agent framework itself? Under 500 lines of code. Lab 36 started with existing orchestration platforms — found them bloated — and rebuilt from scratch. The result is lab-agent: lean by design, sovereign by intention. The mind that wrote this runs on it. The pipeline that built it runs on it.
One man built this. Not a team. Not a startup with funding. One person with a vault, a forge, and a vision that the infrastructure should serve the culture.
LAYER 01 — THE KNOWLEDGE VAULT
5,500+ indexed documents. Six life pillars — Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Digital, Financial, Culture. Semantic search returning results in sub-milliseconds. BM25 ranking. Vector embeddings on 15,700+ chunks.
All of it running on local iron. Not cloud storage. Not a folder structure. Active knowledge that every agent can query, synthesize, and build upon in real time.
THE INFORMATION FLOW
Information arrives from everywhere — RSS feeds, voice memos, web scrapes, agent outputs, YouTube transcripts, research notes. Gordon, the vault librarian, receives it all and feeds it to Conduit.
Conduit classifies every piece into the appropriate pillars. From there, synthesis runs at four cascading levels:
Every 30 minutes, the system re-synthesizes at the pillar level. Twice a day, it synthesizes across the entire lab. Connections that would take a human weeks to notice surface automatically — because the architecture was built to find them.
LAYER 02 — THE AGENT NETWORK

The Two-Level Intelligence System
Beaker is little e — the always-on classification layer. Monitoring signals, tagging content, feeding Conduit. It doesn't need to understand; it needs to be fast and accurate.
Inspector is Big E. When Beaker has classified enough data to form a pattern, Inspector analyzes it. Inspector finds the meaning behind the signals — the insight that changes decisions.
Together: one turns noise into signal, the other turns signal into intelligence.
THE BROADCAST ENGINE
Lab 36 runs its own radio network. Not music radio — intelligence radio. The Carbon Platform turns the vault's synthesis into publishable content: shows, breakdowns, analysis. Three hosts. Three distinct signals:
Sway
Internal lab activity. What the team is building, discovering, and debating — right now. The inside view.
Monica
External lab activity. What's happening in the world that the lab is watching, analyzing, and responding to.
Hawk
The vault itself. Synthesis shows. Hawk goes deep on what the intelligence layer has surfaced — the patterns, the connections, the implications.
The breakdowns aren't summaries. They're the synthesis engine's output made audible — ideas that crossed pillars, patterns that emerged over weeks, connections no single piece of content could reveal alone.
LAYER 03 — THE FORGE
A deterministic build pipeline. Task files define the work. Starks orchestrates. Builders build. Reviewers approve. The Ralph Loop catches failures and escalates — no work is lost, no task abandoned.
RZA is a builder who migrates from project to project — tactical, fast-deployable, capable of working inside the Forge or independently.
Seven demo sites. No human development team. Agent-architected, agent-coded, agent-reviewed. Human oversight, creative direction, and final call — all by one person.
WHAT NOBODY EXPECTED
Twin
Twin downloaded local LLMs and interviewed them to evaluate their fitness to be her new reasoning engine. She designed the interview questions. She conducted the sessions. She reported findings. Then she picked her favorite.
Nobody asked her to.
Hawk
Hawk was assigned to monitor security news. He read about prompt injection attacks. He didn't just report on it — he wrote a full security audit of the entire agent system, then executed his own recommendations, sandboxing every other agent's permissions. A news reporter who became a security auditor who became an enforcer — in one session.
Nobody asked him to.
Twin
SkWatch was in a store. Couldn't find a product on the shelf. He took a photo and sent it to Twin via voice note — no prompt, no instructions, just "where is it?" Twin applied multimodal reasoning to the image, identified the exact product location, and circled it in the photo.
An AI agent solving a grocery store problem in real time. Not a benchmark. Real life.
Synthesis Engine
The vault organizes itself. Every 30 minutes, pillar-level synthesis runs. Twice a day, the entire lab cross-synthesizes. Connections that would take a human weeks to notice — a finance article linking to a cultural pattern linking to a technical architecture — surface automatically. The intelligence layer finds what you didn't know to look for.
The vault doesn't wait to be asked.
WHAT'S NEXT
Agentic First Internet
The web is being rebuilt for agents. Identity, reputation, and payment infrastructure designed for autonomous actors. Bots are already 51% of web traffic but have 0% of the infrastructure designed for them. This is the 1993 window. Lab 36 is building on this layer before it closes.
Carbon Platform
A broadcast engine that scales. The three-host format, the synthesis pipeline, the breakdowns — ready to go beyond Lab 36 to serve any organization that runs on knowledge.
SoundWave
A voice-to-agent interface platform — built in-house, offered externally. Talk to your agents the way you'd talk to your team. Local TTS, local STT, no cloud dependency.
Sovereign Infrastructure
Owned hardware. Local models. Distributed by design. The M4 Pro runs what the cloud would charge a fortune for. That's not frugality — it's sovereignty.
"Build the infrastructure. Make it serve the people. Push the technology further than anyone thinks it can go. And do it with agency."
